Alessandro Papetti was born in Milan in 1958, where he lives and works. Since 1992 he has participated in exhibitions in public spaces and at various art fairs in Europe and in the United States.
Since 1995 he has been working between Milan and Paris. In that year he met the writer and biographer James Lord, who dedicated a significant critical text to him in 1996. In that period Papetti's painting followed the themes of the interiors and portraits in parallel, with particular attention to the study and the deepening of the nude. Themes chosen for the review the power of the image, the painting of realism in Europe, held at the Gropius Bau of Berlin in 1996, as well as in the Sui Generis exhibition at PAC in Milan, curated by Alessandro Riva. As a consequence of this new pictorial cycle and of the previous one dedicated to industrial environments, industrial ports, dry docks and giant hulls, ships' bodies expressed in their size and fragility.
Between 2003 and 2004 he was invited to take part in numerous museum exhibitions, such as the exhibition dedicated to Testori at Palazzo Reale in Milan or the exhibition Identity research curated by Vittorio Sgarbi and exhibited in various public spaces in Italy. In all these years, Papetti periodically retraces his past pictorial cycles, revisiting them.
The interest in the subject of industrial archeology led him to continuous research in the manner and in the subjects and to the realization of a series of paintings dedicated to the former Renault factories. In 2011 he was invited to take part in the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Art Biennale entitled Art is not our thing, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, and at the Pavilion of the Republic of Cuba, entitled Cuba Mon Amour. In September 2011 he installed two of the three circles of “Il ciclo del tempo” at the spaces of the Auditorium of Rome, while in April 2012 he made a solo exhibition at the prestigious Museum of Architecture in Moscow - Muar, entitled The Factories of Utopia. At the end of the same year he exhibited at the Contini Gallery in Cortina the personal Autobiography of painting, accompanied by a critical text in the catalog by Luca Beatrice. At the beginning of 2014, the artist takes part in the “Doppio sogno” exhibition which takes place at Palazzo Chiablese in Turin, curated by Luca Beatrice. Also by Luca Beatrice is the curator of the exhibition “La pell”e through inaugurated in June of the same year at Palazzo Penna - Center of Contemporary Culture (Perugia), where large paintings on paper and canvas investigate the final boundary of the skin.
In 2015 he took part in the "Italia docet | Collateral Event" laboratorium in the 56th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, May-June 2015. In November of the same year he presented in Rome at the Central Institute for Graphics of Palazzo Poli, the exhibition “I live here” for the occasion of the this exhibition, Sky Arte make a documentary about his work and his latest pictorial research.
In April 2016 he opens his own personal exhibition at the CIRCA Gallery in London. In May he took part in the exhibition "The Art Point of View" at the Casa del Mantegna in Mantua, promoted by the Mantua Regional Campus of the Milan Polytechnic.
