Antonio Sgroi was born in Bazzano, in the province of Bologna. From a very early age he developed his natural predisposition for drawing, deepening his knowledge of Rembrandt with regard to engraving, and Rodin for sculpture.
He graduated from the Liceo Artistico di Bologna after attending, for a certain period, the Art Institute of Modena. In 1987 he received a diploma at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna with a thesis on the Modena sculptor of the Cinquecento Antonio Begarelli. At the same time he refined his experience on the processing of marble and clays in some sculpture workshops in Carrara, Pietrasanta and Faenza.
He attended atelier in Rome and Milan, where he deepened his interest in the chalcography. His recordings are published in specialized magazines: in 1990 on "Art Graphics - Review of History of Ancient and Modern Engraving" and in 1992 on "Graphics - Annuario della Grafica in Italia". In 1981 he obtained the 3rd prize in the national painting competition "S.Giorgio - M. Cavazzini".
In addition to his work as a sculptor, an engraver and a set designer, he carried out restoration works and sculptural restoration. Since the 90’ he has participated in numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
He lives and works in Savignano sul Panaro (Modena).
