Valentino Marra, painter and sculptor from Salento (he was born in Martano, Lecce, in 1956), graduated as Art Master at the "Gioacchino Toma" State Institute and later he attended the School of Fine Arts in Lecce. He took part in qualified personal and group exhibitions in many Italian and foreign cities from 1980 on. His Virgin Marys overlook the altars of some of the most prestigious private chapels of his land. He made the Altar pieces of Chiesa degli Angeli (Church of the Angels) in Lecce (2009). His artworks can be found in the most important national and international fairs of contemporary art.
His last personal - organized by Tiziano Giurin of ArteVita Art&Co Gallery, Lecce, at the Palazzo della Comunità in Orta San Giulio, from December 7th 2013 to January 7th 2014 - has been the subject of an important monograph, Valentino Marra, Dreams on Canvas, published by Silvana Editoriale and edited by the art critic Francesca Franco; this volume, translated in several languages and distributed in the most prestigious bookshops, museums and artgalleries of the world, contains one hundred paintings of the artist and a text of Tiziano Giurin.
The paintings dedicated, above all, to female world icons, from Marilyn Monroe to Diana Spencer, from Sofia Loren to Aung San Suu Kyi, are now in many private and public collections and meet with great acclaim from general public and important international art critics.
